Dog grooming FAQ

Good to know before you book.

What if my dog is nervous or difficult during grooming?

Every dog has different needs, and we understand that grooming can be stressful for some. If your dog is anxious, sensitive, or has had a difficult grooming experience in the past, please let us know beforehand. The more information you can share about their triggers, preferences, or handling needs, the better we can prepare and help make the appointment as calm and comfortable as possible.

How often should my dog be groomed?

Most dogs do well with grooming every 4 to 8 weeks, but every breed and coat has different needs. Coat length, shedding, lifestyle, and at-home maintenance, especially regular brushing, all affect how often your dog should come in. Baths or light trims between full grooming appointments can also help keep the coat clean, comfortable, and healthy. If you are unsure what schedule is best for your dog, please ask us and we will be happy to recommend one.

Can you groom a dog with mats or tangles?

Yes, but the safest approach depends on how severe the matting is. Mats form when fur becomes tightly tangled from shedding, moisture, friction, or a lack of regular brushing, and they can pull on the skin and become very uncomfortable. We will always assess the coat and remove what we safely can, but when mats are tight, shaving the affected area is often the most comfortable option for your dog. To help prevent matting, brush regularly and pay extra attention behind the ears, under the collar, around the armpits, and other high-friction areas. Small knots can quickly turn into bigger problems.

How long does a grooming appointment take?

The length of your dog's appointment depends on their size, coat condition, service, and temperament. A bath and tidy-up may take less time, while a full groom or a heavily matted coat will naturally take longer. Most drop-offs are between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM, allowing us to work through each dog at their own pace without rushing. As soon as your dog is ready to head home, we'll give you a call.

Should I do anything before bringing my dog in?

Please make sure your dog has had a chance to use the bathroom before arrival, and let us know about any skin sensitivities, health concerns, special handling needs, or grooming preferences. If it's your first appointment with us, please ensure any required documents, such as vaccination records, have been sent to us beforehand. Depending on your dog's age, health, or individual needs, we may also ask you to sign a standard release form at drop-off.

Do you offer nail trimming without a full groom?

Yes. Walk-ins for nail trims are always welcome and do not require an appointment. For any other add-on service, please give us a call beforehand so we can confirm availability. These services are also a convenient way to keep up with your dog’s care between full grooming appointments.
